Created by Jerry Robinson who passed away pretty recently, December 7  2011. He gave birth to one character that would define the Batman and make him what he is today. I believe as a character Batman was always on the edge of doing the right thing or totally losing it and start killing people. This is why the Joker exists, to some what keep an insane man sane. This review I will be talking three books, two on the Joker and One about the death of the Batman. Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke, Joker by Brian Azzarello and What ever Happened to the Caped Crusader?

The Killing Joke

Before this were was no really conscience  on the origin of the Joker. He was just a madman who appeared out of no where in Gotham and decided to start killing everyone and hunt the Batman. There was no trail Batman could follow to find him, the Joker was too insane to pin down his MO on each crime or robbery he committed. We see the humble beginnings of the Joker trying to make ends meet to provide for his wife and unborn child, looking to make fast money he turns to crime and it all goes wrong when he come face to face with the Batman. His origin is done in flashbacks as we see him remember the past as he plans something far more deadly. This book also gave birth to other character in the Batman universe, Oracle. For those who do not know Oracle is Barbara Gordon or otherwise know as the Batgirl. How this change happens you need to read the book and find out. Other amazing book to have in your collection as you see the birth of two key character in the Batman universe.

This is a strange book, it tell a story of the Joker but from the viewpoint of one of his thugs. Something I have never seen before, thus giving this book a fresh out look on the eternal battle between the Batman and the Joker. The Joker is released from Arkham Asylum and his property and money have been divided up within his old gang. So we see how the Joker works, starting with baiscally his name and how he craves a piece of Gotham for himself every time he leaves the Asylum. Batman’s presence is felt in the book he has very little time in front of the reader. The book is written so well I highly recommend read this book as soon as you get the chance.

What ever happened to the caped crusader?

Crime Alley, where everything started and where it will end. Again for those of you who do not know, crime alley was where Batman was born and Bruce Wayne died. It was the location of his parents death, the killer was Joe Chill. This a collection of Batman’s greatest villains and his greatest allies on under one roof (no it is not a fight) to mourn a great loss. THE DEATH OF THE BATMAN! Also can you guess who else is going to show up for the funeral?I will wait… take your time… I got all day.. okay your time is up. It is the Batman himself!  If you read the book you will see why he is there. His friends and enemies each talk about what he did and how he was able to stop each and very time. The ending of the book sent chills down my spine every time I read it. This was the first book to do so. Like the other reviews before this, it is a book to add to your collection and a great read.

O and before we go I think it is fitting I end this with a joke.

Why did the chicken across the road?

Because it was me.
