DoTA. One point or another I am sure you have seen this or hear about. At one point there was a fairly famous song by an artist called Basshunter who named his song DoTA.

I can guranntee you heard this song play on the radio and you had no idea what it was about but you still danced to it because it had a good beat (well some what). DOTA stands for Defense of the Ancients. This game started as a mod to the popular Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos. The basic idea of the game is two teams are pitted against each other total number of players being 10 (5v5), you get to choose a hero and item that will help boost the stats of that hero. Players can add items to boost certain stats of the hero they have chosen. The map is laid out into three lanes which leads to the enemies base which you have to destroy. That is the basic point of the game, players have to work together to take the other base it cannot be done alone. This mod has grown into a full fledged game not one or two but a lot, League of Legend, Heroes of Newerth, then you have two of the great PC game maker fighting it out of this last two games. One is called DOTA 2 by Valve and the other is called Blizzard DOTA but who owns the name will be decided in the court.

The trailer for the four games are after the break

Now that you have a basic understanding of how the game works. All those games are free to play (not sure about DOTA2) for the most part, you do not need to spend any money to play the game. Unless of course you want to unlock a few heroes and other things by paying for it (these things can be unlocked by playing the game normally as well. That being said, PICKING UP AND PLAYING THIS GAME YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL THE FIRST 50 TIMES. Even if you have you have gaming skills (which I have) you are going to fail, in the first game I played there was a vote to get me kicked called twice (both failed), I got one hero kill (got lucky) after dying about 20 or so times. In the end we lost the game, I was pretty sure it was because of me. After that I think I have played 4 more matched and have yet to actually win a game.

The game requires a different way of thinking, mouse clicks and ability something most other gamers will not have. But like everything else in life, if you stuck with something long enough you will master it or it will beat you senseless. Either way you are bound to get your ass kicked ALOT.
