Movie Review: The Vow

Posted: March 8, 2012 by selis1113 in Movie

The Vow is a 2012 movie starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams.

The movie is about a married couple who are head over heels in love, and one day tragedy strikes them. They get into an accident and the wife (McAdams) suffers from memory impairment. She wakes up with no recollection of even meeting her husband. He then has to get his wife to fall back in love, while she is struggling to understand her own life choices.

Although I enjoyed the movie, I felt it lacked a certain level of …relatibility that other movies such as  The Notebook or When Harry Met Sally were able to achieve.  The movie is completely relatable solely to those in relationships. Although those who are single are able to understand Tatum’s character’s pain, it is only those who are in relationships, that can identify it as their own.

Here is a trailer in case you havent came across it yet

I believe the reason the movie felt so unrelatable was due to the apparent lack of chemistry between Tatum and McAdams. I find McAdams to be a good actress. I have yet to dislike a role that she has played. However, my opinion of  Tatum could not be different.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Tatum as much as the next girl. However, Tatum is not a good actor. When compared to actors such as Ryan Reynolds or Ryan Gosling, Tatum is nothing but an eye candy. McAdams did a great job at portraying her character, however the lack of chemistry made the relationship seem placid.

The movie is a complete and utter chick flick. If you are not into the emotional, romantic movies and are currently not in a relationship with a partner who is into such movies- this is a definite skip for you.

If you are in such a relationship, go see the movie, take a box of tissues. Also gentlemen, don’t forget to buy your lady (or man) some chocolates after.

If you are a single male, go see the movie, take a box of tissues. Perfect place for you to find vulnerable women 😉

If you are a single female, see the movie- two reasons: a) Channing Tatum barely wears a shirt. b) his naked butt!

Author’s note: In this post I’ve taken the liberty to use words such as “relability” and “unrelatable”. The literary appropriateness and even the approved existence of such words are debatable. Apologies to those who are truly offended of me tweaking the literary rules. 🙂
