Movie Review: Dark Shadows

I had the chance to catch the new Tim Bruton movie Dark Shadow with Johnny Depp, when I first saw the trailer for the movie I thought it might be a good movie to watch.

This movie is based off an old TV show with the same name which ran from 1966-1971 and also based on a real family ( I am not sure about the vampire and other stuff tho) . The story starts off in 1792 where Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) gives a quick overview of his life from when he was a small child in England till the time he has the cruse put on him as well as him losing his love of his life. Then its cuts to 200 years later, when the Collins family has basically lost everything they have and been cut down to seven people living in a huge mansion of which only four of them are actually part of the Collin family. The story is basically about family and revenge, after being released from his grave Barnabas and finding out what happened to his family. He wants to rebuilt the family business into what it once was. Since this is a Tim Burton movie, there is a lot of dark humor and scenes so this is not really a movie you watch with children.

The more I think about the movie to write the review the more I am starting to hate it. There are a few funny moments (some of it in the trailers you can see online) and maybe one twist I did not see coming because I do not remember it coming up during the movie. Johnny Depp is really good in the movie and I think what really makes the movie watchable but not at the movies, maybe rent it on  blu ray or if you really want to watch it right now wait for a good copy online or even a bad one. It is not really worth spending money money since it has come out in the middle of superhero season. The week before the Avengers, which people will choose over this. So it is not going to do really well in the box office.

I am not really going to go into much detail about the story but I am going to say this, the ending leaves itself open to a second one. Which I do not see happening.
