The Kickstarter Phenomenon

Posted: April 25, 2012 by thinkben92 in Games

So SolidJackal (Rohan) already wrote about this a while ago, especially when Double Fine jumped on to it and it blew up into what it has now become.

With Double Fine taking the first step to change the method of game development and publication, how far has the change progressed? In two words, not far. The change associated with Kickstarter, even though it is happening, has not happened fast, and will not happen any faster. In total, 10 million dollars have been raised for the gaming community alone. That is an impressive if it were to stand alone. I am not trying to take away the achievements of the change, but simply pointing out that for real change to occur in the gaming industry, a long road still lies before us. 10 million dollars is a lot of money, but when compared to the billions made through the traditional avenues, you can see the situation we are in.

It will take a few years at the least for kickstarter to make the larger gaming community change its methods, but this is something that needs to take its time, if it were too fast, our shining knight would just turn into the tyrants (may be a bit too harsh?) that the publishers of the gaming world have become. In the few months that have passed since Double Fine’s efforts and now, there has been growth, and that in itself should be held as hope for a better economical gaming sector in the years that are to follow.

I know this is incredibly late and for that I apologize. My excuse would be that I had exams, but now that those are finished with here we go.

Synopsis: A pair of underachieving cops are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring.

Plot wise ^ that is all you will ever need to know. This is a movie for when you have no better options to pick from. The movie itself was very well done, surpassed what little expectations I had for it. Jonah Hill delivered as usual, but what really surprised me was Channing Tatum. The guy can actually pull of a comedy well.

The writing duo of Hill and Michael Bacall really did well. The script covers for any flaws that is has with the witty, and crude, humour.

The acting was good for the type of movie that this was. The actor that surprised me, personally the most, was Channing Tatum. After fitting is to the hunky solo troubled protagonist character type, it was refreshing to see in take on a role where he shared that spotlight, and shared it really well in my opinion. Now we all know that Tatum can act outside of chick flicks, dance films and stereotypical action.

The action in this movie was all surprising well done. I feel the comedy driven action was done quite well.

Though this movie does have its share of cheap and crude humour, I definitely recommend watching this movie at some point in the near future.

Alright, this is just a quicky post to make up for my personal silence over the past few days. I will have a review up by the end of the week, but just to keep you all busy until then check out this site:

The game download links are all the way at the bottom and it is completely free to download, on the Mac it is a 7.8 mb file but completely worth it!

Alright, this is my first official post, so take it easy on my guys. Its going to be a straight up review of the PSVita. I’ve had the opportunity to mess around with it for about two weeks now, off and on. My honest opinion about it is that I want a decent enough firmware modification to be released. Obviously something of that sort is a while away, not to mention that it is not exactly legal.

This is how the review is going to break down, first a simple  overview of the hardware, then the software, and then the interface. Cool? (note: I’m going to try to keep the tech jargon at a minimum, since I’m not entirely sure of the reader base yet)
